Hiring a CPG content team in LA or Austin

Remote creator UGC solved a real problem: you do not need to fly a crew across the country for every piece of content anymore. But it created a new one, a lot of brands stopped thinking about local production entirely, and that is a mistake.

Why local still matters

Remote UGC is great for volume and for the specific format of a creator talking directly to camera in their own space. It is not a substitute for a real production day: a crew who can style a shot, control lighting, direct a set, and turn your actual product into something that looks like it belongs on a shelf or a hero ad. That work needs a local team, because product has to physically be in the room, and the fastest way to lose momentum is shipping product across the country and waiting a week for a shoot that could have happened this week if you had a crew nearby.

Los Angeles and Austin both have deep production talent pools built for exactly this: fast turnaround, real crews, and a supply of props, locations, and creators that a remote-only strategy cannot replicate.

Questions worth asking before you hire

  • How fast can you turn a shoot day into finished content? A team with a real pipeline should quote days, not weeks, for the first cut.
  • Do you shoot the full range, or just one format? A team that only does polished hero video will push you toward the wrong content mix. A team that only does lo-fi UGC cannot cover a launch moment. You want one partner for both, from the same understanding of your brand.
  • What happens to the product after the shoot? A studio that treats your product casually is telling you how they will treat your brand.
  • Can I see unedited examples, not just the highlight reel? Anyone can show you their best three pieces. Ask what a normal week of output actually looks like.
  • What is the actual contract length? See our note on studios versus retainers for why this matters more than the price itself.

A good local team should feel like they showed up in your kitchen, not like they flew in from an agency deck.

Los Angeles

Deep bench of talent, locations, and props, and a market that is fluent in social native content because so much of the platform itself is built there. Good fit for brands that want fast iteration and access to a wide range of aesthetic directions in one city.

Austin

A tighter, faster moving scene with a strong food and beverage culture already built into the city. Brands based in Texas or the broader south get the advantage of a local crew who understands the retail landscape they are actually trying to break into.
